STAND UP, SPEAK OUT!

Dear. President Obama

I am a high school student who wants to tell you about gay rights. I am straight, but I believe that all homosexuals should have the same rights as straight people because god put everyone was put here to be their own person. Every person has different personality and preference. For example, my friend likes a singer, but I hate the singer. No one can tell that I have fault because I can decide and think what I want with the human rights. Then, if we think about gay people, can we assert that they have fault? Can we prove it with clear evidences? No. I do not think we can because although we have a reason they fall in love with the same sexes, it is not a topic we cannot discuss carelessly. Also, I do not think the law is always right either. It's sick when people have to fight the government to get rights they already should have, and that is really a stupid thing. If your friend is gay, he is gay. If you are straight, you are straight. It is your choice what you decide to become a straight or gay. Therefore, they do have rights. I think that people need to remember the 10 commandments and freedom of speech with that the freedom of having the SAME RIGHTS as everyone else. I am not a homosexual but I do believe that everyone deserves to have the same rights as everyone else.
No exceptions. No regrets.

Homework (Essay)

^^*Question : It is often said that you should never judge another person until you walk in their shoes. Is this true? Why or why not, and use good, well-reasoned examples.

I agree with the topic because I cannot judge people before I know them. For example, before I tell I am Korean to people, they can think I am Chinese or Japanese. That means although you judge people, your judgement can be wrong.

Most of people judge by appearance. That is the truth the first thoughts are based on appearance. However, before you try to get to know them, you cannot judge anything about them. For example, my grandfather looks scary because of his big eyes, but actually he is nice because he likes to take care of plants. Also, he harvests vegetables and fruits for us at the front garden of the house.

You might hurt people feelings. If you blame a fat person, the person gets hurt because you do not know how the person tries to lose weight and what the person eats for diet. You can never realize his or her efforts. For example, before I had Mr. Serbeniuk's class, I heard from my friend he was a boring teacher. However, after I took his class, I realized he was a good teacher.

You do not know wha the person is going through or where they are coming from. Also, you do not know their background. You cannot know they have problems with their family or a person gets a F on the test, so he or she feels bad about it. You never know before you have conversations with them. Also, you cannot judge the people by your thoughts and feelings.

Do not judge people. Do not forget if you judge people by appearance or your thoughts, they can judge you by appearance or their thoughts. Respect for people. Although you judge people, nothing is good for you. Also, treat people without your judgement. This really important becuase it can affect your society.

Homework

I don't know who is my neighbor. I think most of people don't know their neighborhood. My grandmother told me 10 years ago, when people were passing by our house, they certainly say "Hi". These days, no one doesn't say "Hi". I think people are gradually going to be selfish. I can be selfish too. No one does not realize he or she is selfish. My neighborhood is really quiet, so there is no an accident near my neighborhood. I know it is really nice, but is it really nice???? If we know each other, we can make our place better. Also, we can talk about problems.

What is an American?

Before I came to United States, I did not know anything about this country even though who was the first president in this country. I heard the word "United States" when I was taking ESL becuase we read the text book of ESL which was almost about American culture or immigration. I could see and hear the word although I did not want to see and hear it. People do not call this country as America becuase there are South America and North America, so this country is called as United States. Also, people who live in this country are called as Untied States citizens.
Korea, Japan, and China are called as Asia countries, so I think it is same thing with this country. That means this country is just one of America countries.

People come to this country from other countires to get a better life.I thought only white people lived in this country. However, when I arrived in LA, I could see many people who had differnet skin colors. There are many latin people in my school. Although they are born in this country, they have their own culture except American culture. I think they are affected from their parents. I think it is good because before I came to this country, I did not even know Mexico is,but I could get informations which are about Mexico from my friends.

Namely, although we have different culture, we can share informations and talk about experiences in English. I think the language makes us together. If I think what "United States" means, I can tell the word means different states make together.

Stream of Consciousness

My name is Younji. I am 16 years old. I came to United States as a trip because I got good grades when I was 8th grade, so my parents wanted me to travel before I went to high school. My parents and I knew that If I was a high school student in Korea, I would not have time to travel because I would go to school from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm. Most of Korean high school students only focus on their education, so they study hard every single day.

I was so excited because I went to Disney Land, Universal Studio, Las Vegas, and Notts with my relatives, so I liked the American culture because people look peaceful and comfortable. Also, I had new experiences. I was having great time, and I felt I wanted to stady here gradually. I envyed people who although their race is Korean, they can speak English and Korean. For example, my couisn came to this country when she was 5th grade, so she can speak Korean and English naturally. She looked great.

I asked my parents about living in this country with my relatives. They okayed my decision. After they discussed with my uncle about my future, I prepared for going to high school with my uncle. I had to choose between Los Angeles High School and West Adams Prep High School. I chose West Adams Prep High School because there were many Korean students in L.A.H.S, so I knew if I went there, I would not try to speak English.

I could not used to be in school and home. I did not feel comfortable anywhere. I wa so depressed when I was 9th grade because I could not have friends and I was alone in the classes. That reason is that I could not understand and speak English. That time, I wanted to go back to Korea. I knew everything needed English when I did homework, read a book, etc, but English was more difficult than I thought.

Anyway, I am studying hard these days because I came here to study, and I want to go to college. This year is very busy because I should start to prepare for SAT and ACT, and I should do the service worker. My goal is to go to UCSD, so I need to get good scores on SAT. Also, I will do my best in this class. I am glad that I have Ms. Erudite's class again, and I thank her let me take her class in the semester.

Reflection on Luis Rodriguez Assembly

Luis J. Rodriguez was a member of gang when he was sixteen years old. He decided to get out of them. Therefore, he made a difference for his life, and he is a writer and a poet who had cultural center in Los Angeles. His popular book is Always Running. Always Running is about real gang life with the graphic details. The book is really good because you can make a decision for your life ,or you can make a chance which you can consider about your life through the book. We don't know yet what we have to do, and what we want to be in the future. Also, we don't know we are doing good for our lives because we are sometimes silly by our wrong decisions. This book tells you why the life is important and how you have to act right.

Expository Essay

Yuna Kim is a figure skater. she got a gold medal in the 2010 Olympic champion. She began the fiure skating when she was young. She wished to become a great figure skater like Michelle Wing Kwan who is her role model. She could not wear a new shoes in a long time because she practiced all day. She really had a hard time because figure skating is not popular sport in Korea ,so no one did not support her although she is the first South Korean figure skater to win a medal at an ISU Junior. Therefore, she practiced in Lotte World which is an amusement park, and she took lessons in there with her teachers. Her family was not rich, so her mother supported her selling her own house. Her mother was her unique manager and supporter. Although her situation was the worst, she did not give up her dream ,and she ran to reach out her dream. She is supporting Minjung Kwak who is lanked fifteenth in the 2010 Olympic champion because she wants her to have a good condition. I herad that she is idle now because she does not have a goal anymore. Also, she said she gets scared to play the figure skating. I hope she will choose the right way for her life.

Essay ( Comparing The theme of two plays)

In The White Uniform, the lady and the maid exchanges their own dress as a game. The lady wears the white uniform, and the maid wears the robe. The maid has an illusion because she thinks she is the lady because of the robe. In Barefoot in the Park, Paul is newly married lawyer. Corie is a newly married woman whose main life is to have fun and to have it with Paul. However, Paul does not know how to have fun, so she is mad at him. They have a fight. The lady and the maid need to understand each other. In the same way, Paul and Corie need to understand each other. If the lady acts well in front of the maid when she is wearing the robe, the maid would not betray to her. In the same way, although Corie wants to have fun with Paul, to put blame upon him is her wrong thought. I think that he probably wants to have fun with her, but he does not just know how to have fun. It is his personality. So then, if Corie and Paul will be able to have a good time. We have to understand each other and love each other. Then, everyone will be happy with their important people.

Stream of Consciousness

These days, we can know that the earthquake happens remarkably, so I am afraid about the it. It already happened slightly in California, but we are still nervous because it will happen again. No one cannot guess that it will be strong or soft. If it is strong, our lives will be in danger. My grandmother told me that when I feel to happen the earthquake, if I have time, go outside and go into under the desk or under the bed. I had felt the soft earthquake when I was in Disney World on July 24, 2008. If the earthquake is soft, nothing happens to us badly. My family will buy water bottles to get ready for the earthquake. The reason which we want to buy them is for us if we are confined during few days. We can save our lives by only drinking water. If I suppose to happen the earthquake right now, I will go to my grandparents, and I will go outside with them. They are important to me. I am worried about my brother, but I think that he can go outside by himself. The earthquake never happened in Korea before. However, this time, it happened in Korea softly. I think that there is safe place on the earth. If I suppose that I am confined under the bed during few days, can I save my life?

Found Poem

Have you ever seen
anything
in your life
more wonderful

such wild love-
do you think there is anywhere in any language,
a word billowing enough
for the pleasure

I love you, because in my thousand and one
nights of dreams,
I never once dreamed of you

Suddenly I've felt you flying through my soul

I call out for you against the jutted stars

Like a slackened drum

And the lamps of the city prick my eyes

-----------------------------------------------------------

Anything could happen between me and you
A whole life ahead of us
A wonderful love that me and you have
Some wild and strong feelings
Anywhere you take me I feel great

Language is not the only thing
My pleasure of knowing you is wonderful
Thousands and thousands of words cannot stop
me of telling you dream about you every night
Your soul is like star flying around my heart

Literary Treasure

Love Without Love

by Luis Lloréns Torres

I love you, because in my thousand and one nights of dreams,

I never once dreamed of you.

I looked down paths that traveled from afar,

but it was never you I expected.

Suddenly I've felt you flying through my soul

in quick , lofty flight,

and how beautiful you seem way up there, far

from my always idiot heart!

Love me that way, flying over everything.

And, like the bird on its branch, land in my arms

only to rest,

then fly off again.

Be not like the romantic one who,

In love, set me on fire.

When you climb up my mansion,

enter so lightly, that as you enter

the dog on my heart will not bark.

Translated by Julio Marazán

I chose this poem because it is so romantic. It talks about love. The person loves a girl. The person is telling that how he feels when he thinks about her and how he loves her too much. I think that he is in love without sucess because he says that love him that way. Also, I think that he is proposing heis real heart to her because this poem is like a letter. My favorite sentance in this poem is "Suddenly I've felt you flying through my soul" because that means he really falls in love with her, and he really loves her. The sentance is so romantic. I never have a boyfriend, so I do not know about love. However, if I have a boyfriend, I hope that my future boyfriend says the sentance to me. I have heard "Love believes all things". I think love is romantic and beautiful to everyone.

Narrative Vocabulary

pleasant

I chose the word pleasant. Its meaning is affording pleasure; and being in harmony with your taste or likings. I like theis word because it has good meaning. There are many similar words to this word. For example, enjoyable, gratifying, pleasurable, fine, and grateful. I discovered the word when I was solving a English problem. I could not understand the word when I translated a sentance which included the word because I got confused between pleasant and peasant, but I know now that peasant's meaning is a coarse, unsophisticated, boorish, uneducated person of little financial means. English is very interesting because pleasant and peasant have different meanings becasue of the alphabet " L".

Narrative w/ song lyrics

I came to unites states when I was 9th grade. People always says that I came to here late to learn English, so I got so much stresses because of them. One day, I had gone to korean store to buy a clothes by myself. The store's owner asked to me "Did you come here to study? Was your grade bad in Korea?" I felt annoyed because of him. Yes, I know that I am insufficient in English , but I think if I do my best, I can reach out my goal. " Throw it away. Forget yesterday. We'll make the great escape. We won't hear a word they say." The Great Escape by Boys Like Girls.

I wanted to become a teacher before, but I want to become a scientist who searched for any cell. When I took biology class during summer, I could really have fun although my class was boring. I really like biology. After my English skill improves a lot, I hope that I take AP biology class. First, I have to study English hard!!! "There is a world hopes and dreams can last for a time. If you can dream a wish were making on a star thaths coming true." If You Can Dream by Disney.

I know what I want to do and what I want to become in the future because i am 16 years old.
I am living with my uncle's family. My uncle and aunt go to work everyday. They come back home at 6'o clock. I almost spend time with my brother, so I always have to ask to him "Did you take a shower" as mother. I have to be mature more. "You're moving way too fast (sixteen). There is so much for you ahead. Sweet sicteen. Do you know where you're running to." Sweet Sixteen by Destiny's Child.
